Bright ideas: Saxby’s professional lighting for faster, more flexible installations

As installation projects continue to demand greater efficiency, lighting manufacturers are placing increased emphasis on products that simplify specification, reduce installation time and offer greater flexibility on site. Luke Bush, Brand Manager at Saxby Lighting looks at a new professional lighting range which reflects this shift.

Features such as selectable outputs, plug-and-play accessories and improved cable management are now becoming standard expectations rather than premium additions. Saxby’s latest professional lighting range reflects this, with several products developed to address the practical challenges faced by installers while maintaining flexibility for a wide range of commercial and residential applications.

THE EvoX bulkhead

Saxby’s new EvoX bulkhead has been designed to provide flexibility across a wide range of applications, combining multiple installation options within a single, adaptable fitting.

Suitable for both wall and ceiling mounting and boasting a hinged tray, the EvoX has been developed with versatility in mind, allowing it to meet the changing requirements of different environments and installation scenarios. The fitting can be installed with or without its decorative bezel, giving specifiers and installers the choice between a more traditional bulkhead appearance or a simplified utility lighting solution.

Selectable colour temperature and wattage provide additional flexibility, whilst reducing the number of product variants required on site. Installation efficiency is further improved through the detachable gear tray, which allows the base to be installed and fully wired during first fix before the gear tray is fitted during second fix. This separation of installation stages helps to simplify the workflow on site, reducing handling and making the overall installation process more efficient.

Saxby has also helped to simplify the testing process. The EvoX features a push-fit loop-in/loop-out connector with integrated testing points compatible with GS38 probes, allowing installers to carry out R1+R2 and insulation resistance testing quickly and safely without the need to disconnect and rewire each fitting individually. By simply removing the connector from the driver, testing can be completed efficiently before reconnecting the fitting.

Further installation flexibility is provided through four 20mm conduit entry points on the side of the fitting and Besa box compatibility, accommodating a variety of wiring configurations and installation requirements. Optional plain and eyelid bezels, alongside true plug-and-play emergency and sensor accessories, allow the fitting to be adapted both during and after installation, providing additional functionality without the need for extensive modification.

The LinX20 batten

For linear applications, the LinX20 batten has been designed on similar foundations. Within the base there are multiple positions where the push fit connector can be located allowing for flexibility on cable entry; also boasting 20mm conduit entry at both ends and Besa box compatibility. The batten features a push-fit loop-in/loop-out connector with integrated testing points compatible with GS38 probes, allowing installers to carry out R1+R2 and insulation resistance testing quickly and safely without the need to disconnect and rewire each fitting individually. By simply removing the connector from the driver, testing can be completed efficiently before reconnecting the fitting.

The LinX20 features a hinged gear tray for easy access during installation. By releasing the two internal locking clips, the gear tray can be completely detached from the base, allowing installers to complete first fix by mounting the bases and routing cables before returning to fit the gear trays during second fix. The removable hinge system also enables the diffuser to be detached from the base without requiring reattachment during installation, reducing handling and helping to improve efficiency on site.

Available in 4ft, 5ft and 6ft lengths, the LinX20 is offered in both selectable colour temperature and wattage versions, alongside single-colour options. A range of plug-and-play sensors and emergency modules can also be added without the use of tools.

The LinX65 batten

Design on the principles found throughout the LinX20 and EvoX ranges, the LinX65 combines performance with features that help simplify installation. It combines an IP65 rating for protection against dust and water ingress with an IK08 impact rating, making it well suited to demanding commercial, industrial and utility environments. Selectable colour temperature and wattage provide greater flexibility, enabling a single product to suit a variety of applications while reducing the need to carry multiple product variants and ensuring consistency throughout a site. The push-fit loop-in/loop-out connector has integrated testing points suitable for GS38 probes, allowing to carry out the R1+R2 and IR test incredibly easily and support quicker and safer installation, while multiple cable fixing positions within the base offer added flexibility when working with different wiring configurations. Together, these features are designed to help streamline installation without compromising performance or durability.

Installation flexibility is further enhanced by a range of cable entry options which include; 20mm pop-out conduit entry points on the rear and ends, together with side drill-out points and full BESA box compatibility, giving installers greater freedom to route cables in a way that best suits the application. Locking spring clips are designed to remain securely in the open position during installation, reducing the need to hold them back while refitting the diffuser and making for a quicker install. The mounting brackets also feature centrally offset fixing points, simplifying alignment and helping to achieve a straightforward installation.

As with the wider X-Series range, the LinX65 is compatible with a selection of common plug-and-play sensors and emergency modules, allowing additional functionality to be integrated quickly and easily. This modular approach enables the luminaire to be tailored to the specific requirements of each project, without the need for complex installation or additional tools, these modules are true plug-and-play, simply clicking into place.

Collectively, these products demonstrate how lighting design is increasingly focused not only on performance once installed, but also on reducing complexity throughout the installation process. By incorporating adaptable configurations, simplified wiring and modular accessories, manufacturers are responding to the industry’s growing demand for solutions that improve efficiency without compromising functionality.
