ESP explains how an end‑to‑end fire system support sets contractors – and wholesalers – up for success.

For electrical contractors navigating the increasingly complex world of fire safety compliance, having a manufacturer that offers more than just products can make all the difference. Equally important is having a wholesaler who can connect them to the right technical support from the outset. ESP has long recognised this need, and over recent years it has built a comprehensive support framework that wholesalers can confidently offer to their customers – guiding contractors from the earliest design discussions right through to final commissioning and certification.

What sets ESP apart is not simply the breadth of its offer, but the way its services integrate into a smooth, contractor‑friendly workflow that wholesalers can rely on to enhance their own customer service. The company’s Fire System Design Service and Fire Commissioning Service have become established pillars of support for installers across the UK – and together, they form a complete package that helps contractors deliver compliant, reliable systems with confidence.

Design support

ESP’s design service has become a go‑to resource for contractors of all sizes, from local electricians to national contracting firms – often accessed via their preferred electrical wholesaler. By directing customers to ESP’s design team, wholesalers can provide added value at the earliest stage of a project. The service provides expert guidance in selecting the right products and creating a scheme that meets both the project’s objectives and all relevant regulations.

The process begins with an initial discussion to understand the site, the risks, and the client’s requirements. From there, ESP’s design team gathers measurements, drawings and specifications. For larger or more complex projects, a site visit ensures every detail is captured accurately.

With this information in hand, ESP produces a full design proposal, complete with system drawings, device schedules and a quotation. Crucially, the process is collaborative: contractors and the ESP design team work closely together to refine the scheme until it meets every requirement.

The service also extends beyond fire detection. ESP’s design team supports CCTV, Emergency Lighting, Access Control and Disabled Refuge systems – giving wholesalers a single point of contact for multiple safety disciplines. Enquiries are welcomed from both contractors and wholesalers, with a dedicated channel available at design@espuk.com.

Commissioning

Once installation is complete, ESP’s Fire Commissioning Service provides the final layer of assurance. Delivered by qualified commissioning engineers located throughout the UK, the service ensures that every ESP fire system is tested, configured, and certified in line with BS5839‑1.

The commissioning process includes:

Full verification of installation quality

Device testing and loop integrity checks

Panel programming and cause‑and‑effect configuration

System performance testing

Certification issued prior to handover

For contractors, this removes uncertainty and reduces liability. For wholesalers, it provides a valuable after‑sales support option that strengthens customer relationships and reinforces trust in the ESP brand. For end users, it provides confidence that their system has been installed and commissioned to the highest standard.

Independent recognition through BAFE accreditation

ESP’s commitment to quality is further reinforced by its BAFE SP203‑1 accreditation for fire system design. This accreditation – awarded only to organisations that meet strict third‑party certification requirements – places ESP on the National BAFE Fire Safety Register.

For contractors, this means the design service they rely on is independently verified as competent, compliant and aligned with all relevant British Standards. For wholesalers, it provides a strong assurance that the support they are recommending is backed by recognised industry credentials – a powerful advantage in a sector where accountability and traceability are increasingly important.

A complete package

With its established design service, nationwide commissioning support, extensive product portfolio – including the latest two‑wire fire systems – and a team of experienced technical specialists, ESP now offers contractors a truly end‑to‑end fire systems solution.

Wholesalers benefit equally, gaining the ability to offer their customers not just products, but a complete support ecosystem that spans design, installation guidance, and commissioning. This strengthens customer loyalty, enhances the wholesaler’s technical credibility and helps ensure projects run smoothly from start to finish.

In a market where compliance, documentation and reliability are under greater scrutiny than ever, ESP’s integrated approach gives contractors – and the wholesalers who support them – exactly what they need: confidence, clarity, and a partner that adds value at every stage of the project.

Located directly above the city’s central railway station and costing over £350m to renovate, Station House has been transformed from a disused office building into a modern complex of 200 stylish glass fronted apartments.

Gallico Systems was awarded the contract to equip the building with ultra-modern life-safety systems. The most important consideration from the client’s point of view was to provide the apartments not only with a superior level of fire protection but with a solution that would prevent false fire alarms – a common occurrence in residential buildings housing multiple occupants. Hence the specification of Hush Pro.

Specifically designed for flats, apartments and high-rise residential buildings, Hush Pro allows residents to test their own devices, be alerted to system faults and hush any false alarms at the hush button controller within their apartment. A fully monitored BS 5839-6 Grade C system, Hush Pro also integrates with the site’s BS 5839 part 1 landlord system to report any faults back to the fire panel and even allows management to remotely monitor the system.

Paul French, Gallico’s MD, said: “As a Grade C system, Hush Pro allows far greater control than any other fire system. If, for any reason, part of the domestic fire alarm is compromised, this is immediately be reported to the building management team to allow them to action the fault and reinstate full fire detection coverage to the flat to ensure the safety of the residents.

“The system has also been hugely effective in preventing false alarms. We also secured the ongoing maintenance of all the building’s fire systems and can say with absolute confidence that we have had no issues whatsoever.”

Home safety is paramount, especially in today’s world, where comprehensive protection is crucial. Single-sensor Fire and Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms, though essential, only offer part of the solution. This is where multi-sensor Fire and CO alarms step in, combining multiple individual sensors in a single unit for enhanced protection and convenience.

Meeting Modern Home Needs:

Multi-sensor Fire Alarm: Imagine an alarm like Aico’s Ei3024, equipped with both optical and heat sensors to detect smoke and heat. Its intelligent software ensures these sensors work together for optimal performance. Including dust compensation and an insect shield to minimise false alarms. These alarms are ideal for hallways, landings, living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms.

Visual Indicators: The Ei3030 has visual Fire and CO indicators. The relevant indicator flashes depending on what has triggered the alarm, making it easy to distinguish the type of emergency. As well as featuring different audible alerts for CO and fire detection, adhering to BS EN 50292:2023 specifications.

Kitemarks: This device holds Kitemarks for British Standards BS EN 14604:2005, BS 5446-2:2003 and BS EN 50291-1:2018.

Customer-focused design: Developed in response to customer requests, the Ei3030 combines three crucial sensors: heat, optical, and CO. This innovative integration offers comprehensive fire and CO detection for various environments.

Enhanced convenience and reliability: With three sensors in one unit, the Ei3030 provides both convenience and peace of mind. No more choosing between different products or worrying about the number of units needed. This user-friendly device delivers the best of all worlds.

Commitment to innovation: This development showcases Aico’s dedication to continuously listening to customer feedback and delivering cutting-edge solutions that address evolving needs.

Streamlined installation: Installers can achieve comprehensive fire and CO protection with fewer Ei3030 units, making the process efficient and convenient for both installers and users.

Advanced features: The Ei3030 goes beyond sensor integration. It boasts rechargeable lithium backup batteries for a hassle-free experience, AudioLINK+ compatibility for detailed information on smartphones or tablets, and SmartLINK compatibility for centralized control and monitoring.

Versatility: Suitable for installation in any room except the kitchen and garage, the Ei3030 eliminates the need for multiple alarms while maintaining comprehensive coverage. This reliable and efficient unit detects both fire and CO hazards, ensuring peace of mind throughout your home.

Navigating BS 5839:6 for optimal home safety:

Choosing the right grade and category of smoke alarm system for your property is crucial, as outlined in British Standard BS 5839:6. Rented properties require Grade D2 Category LD2. For private dwellings, Grade D2 Category LD2 applies to new or altered properties, while Grade D3 is sufficient for existing homes. Remember, understanding how different categories provide varying levels of protection based on fire risk is key to maximising occupant safety.

Category LD2: Offers detectors in all escape routes, high-risk areas (kitchens), and the main habitable room.

Category LD3: Provides detectors in all escape routes.

Multi-sensor alarms, by detecting both Fire and CO in one unit, eliminate the need for multiple alarms while maintaining comprehensive coverage and minimising wiring and installation.

Smart, Connected, and Future-proof:

Aico’s 3000 Series offers “full circle” protection with the ability to detect both fire and CO, simplifying product selection for your entire property. Additionally, wireless Radio Frequency (RF) technology provides a convenient and flexible alternative to traditional wired systems, keeping things neat and tidy. Products like the Ei3000MRF Module allow for wireless interconnection, ensuring all alarms sound when one is triggered, and data extraction for enhanced monitoring via the Ei1000G Gateway.

By choosing multi-sensor Fire & CO alarms like the Ei3030, you’re investing in the future of home safety. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with comprehensive protection, streamlined installation, and advanced features.
