In this month’s Face to Face we speak with Will Rich, Managing Director at WISKA UK, to find out more about the company and industry growth areas.
Q. What is the company history of WISKA?
WISKA Hoppmann was founded in 1919 in Hamburg, initially focusing on shipbuilding and in 1925, we believe it was the first Company to manufacture a plastic gland.
WISKA UK Ltd was setup in the year 2000 in Cornwall, having know the Hoppmann family for several years. 2025 will be our 25th year in the UK, which also marks 100 years of manufacturing plastic cable glands.
Q. What are the products and solutions WISKA is best known for?
Whilst the business started off manufacturing products for the shipbuilding industry, the first products we introduced to the UK market were cable glands and junction boxes.
The COMBI junction box and the SPRINT range have become a market leaders in the UK, and we continue to make improvements and add further products to these ranges. We were the first to develop a VentGLAND, reducing condensation in enclosures, as well as the TKS, a 2-component product with strain relief. We have now developed the TriSHOT. This product is manufactured from a 3-shot moulding and has been designed to reduce the carbon footprint and speed up installation.
Q. Are there specific industry sectors that WISKA specialises in producing products for?
Our key market in the UK, is the Installation market; we pride ourselves on designing products that save the installer time on installation. We also manufacture specialised products for the Marine and Offshore markets, which gives us the benefit of knowing the highest possible standards required for our products.
Q. What are the current industry growth areas wholesalers should keep an eye on?
Whilst the market is difficult, there are still opportunities for growth. We are seeing several of our products being used for both the PV and EV markets.
Q. WISKA has picked up a number of industry awards in recent years – what is the secret behind these successes?
We try to put the customer first both with the product design and service. Our manufacturing facilities are state of the art, which is supported by extensive product design and stock holding.
Q. What are WISKA’s long-term aims and objectives in the UK market?
We are very much a family business, with a very young team, who are keen to move the business forward. We want to give them every opportunity to continue the success of WISKA UK Ltd. Our business is developing new ideas and products all of the time, which we hope to give great solutions in the market place.
