Recolight has announced the appointment of a new Director, David Barnwell, who will represent Holophane on the Recolight Ltd board; the first time the company has held a seat on the board. David is Managing Director of Holophane, a role he has held since 2019, and brings over 30 years’ experience in the lighting industry, including more than 26 years at Holophane. He also sits on the Board of the Lighting Industry Association, having served as its President from 2024 to 2026.

Eddie Embleton
EDA

The EDA has announced the appointment of Eddie Embleton as CEO Designate from 1 October 2026. Eddie brings over a decade of senior level experience within the electrical industry, most recently as Managing Director of Voltimum, where he led and grew its digital media and data business. He has already built strong working relationships with many wholesalers, manufacturers and associations across the sector, which he will draw on in his new role.

The appointment follows a highly successful 12-year tenure by Margaret Fitzsimons as Chief Executive and includes a structured transition period as she steps back into a part-time strategic role, ensuring continuity and a smooth handover of responsibilities.

ESP has appointed Robert Olver as Area Sales Manager for the East Midlands, where he will play a key role in supporting customers and driving growth across the territory. Rob joins the business with a strong background in electrical wholesale, having progressed from a graduate trainee position into a range of sales and management roles. Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in account management, business development and branch leadership, building strong relationships across the industry. In his new role with ESP, Rob will be responsible for driving demand across the company’s product portfolio throughout the East Midlands.

Triton Showers has appointed Guy Cowdry as Product Director to lead its innovation strategy, quality function and sustainability ambitions. Guy will head up Triton’s product strategy from concept and development through to launch, optimisation and end-of-life, ensuring the UK manufacturer continues to deliver solutions that align with evolving customer needs, technical advancements and regulatory shifts.

Elucian has strengthened its sales team having appointed Greg Butler as Area Sales Manager for West Scotland. Greg joined the business with more than 10 years of experience in sales and account management, having successfully managed sales across West Scotland for a leading machinery manufacturer. In his role with Elucian, Greg is responsible for developing existing accounts, identifying new business opportunities, and promoting the Elucian product range across West Scotland. Ansell Lighting has announced six strategic appointments as part of its ongoing growth and expansion strategy.

Charlotte Jago has joined the company as Head of Commercial Finance and FP&A, alongside Matthew Clague who has been appointed as Head of Customer Success, Sam Henderson who joins the business as Project Manager and Jonthan Knock who takes up the role of Supply Chain Manager.

Recolight CEO Nigel Harvey and marketing and communications manager Suzanne Castine recently received SLL honorary fellowships at the AGM in CIBSE’s headquarters in London.

Usually, one award is given each year, but this year an exception was made. Previous recipients have included Kevin McCloud in 2010, Jonathan Speirs in 2003, and Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh back in 1959.

F Mark Ltd founder Simon Fisher FSLL and Circular Lighting Report editor Ray Molony gave the citations for Harvey and Castine respectively.

Outgoing Society of Light and Lighting president Kristina Allison said: “The honorary fellowship recognises a significant contribution not only of services to the Society but to the wider lighting profession. It’s sanctioned by the Executive Committee of the SLL. The work that both do with Recolight has a positive impact on the industry and is incredible.”

On accepting his award, Nigel Harvey said: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive the honorary fellowship of the Society of Light and Lighting. The recognition of professional peers, colleagues and friends is uniquely special. My sincere thanks to the SLL Executive Committee for the award. But I’m only the helmsman at Recolight. We’ve an amazing team, who all play vital roles and this award belongs to us all.”

Suzanne Castine commented: “Thank you to the SLL executive committee for recognising the work I do. Marketing is an overhead, so we’re constantly looking at ways to reduce cost. And as a not-for-profit funded by our WEEE Scheme Lighting manufacturer Members, it’s even more critical for me to be mindful of spend. Therefore, I keep our work in house and don’t use agencies. We were recognised for going above and beyond and were in a room full of lighting professionals who do that too. So many have helped Recolight along the way, presenting at webinars and conferences, offering support, guidance and help.”

Ovia has announced three key appointments to its UK sales team as the business continues its strong growth trajectory. Ben Swift has joined as Regional Sales Manager for the Southern Region. Ben brings over 20 years of experience within the electrical industry, predominantly in lighting and the wholesale market. His career includes senior roles with a number of leading players in this sector.

Joining Ben’s Southern team is Lee Hems, appointed Area Sales Manager for East Anglia and Essex. Recolight has announced the appointment of Flavie Lowres as Environmental Metrics Manager. Flavie will play a pivotal role in supporting the lighting industry in the adoption of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Flavie joins Recolight with a distinguished track record in Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), EPDs, and the circular economy of construction products and buildings. Flavie is a fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and chairs their Construction Materials Group Board and is also Sustainability Champion at the Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS).

Schneider Electric has appointed Dr. James Ezhaya as Senior Vice President, Industrialization and Supply Chain for the Power Products Division. The appointment reflects Schneider Electric’s continued focus on strengthening industrial execution and supply chain performance to support the division’s growth and customer needs.

The service provides an integrated collection and recycling solution for all lighting waste generated during major projects. In this month’s Face to Face we speak to Nigel Harvey, Chief Executive at Recolight, to hear his views on a more sustainable lighting industry and the implementation of the circular economy.

Q. Why should electrical wholesalers offer a free lamp and WEEE recycling service to customers?

There are many good reasons. First and foremost, because it is a legal requirement:  Any wholesaler selling electrical products that could be used by a consumer, must provide a free of charge take back on a one-for-one basis. So if, for example, an electrical contractor buys 50 GU10 LED lamps, they have the right to return around 50 similar lamps to the point of purchase, for recycling.

In addition, providing a WEEE take back service is a vital way in which wholesalers can act more sustainably. That also provides an additional service to their customers, and can increase footfall.

Q. What are Recolight and how can they help with this?

Recolight was set up by the lighting industry as a not-for-profit to provide collection and recycling of waste lighting to meet obligations under the WEEE regulations. That means Recolight offer wholesalers, and others, free collection and recycling of waste lamps, subject to minimum quantities. The company also provide low cost collection of waste luminaires and batteries.

Q. Why is the circular economy so important and what difference will the release of the Government’s ‘Circular Economy Growth Plan’ make?

The circular economy is a vital way in which sustainability can be embedded into commercial operations, and is an essential part of the effort to tackle climate change. A circular economy seeks to keep existing products in use for longer, to repair or upgrade them where possible, and to only replace and recycle them where that is not an option. The government set up a taskforce to make recommendations on how to implement a circular economy, and we expect to see a consultation on the proposals this Spring.

Q. How can wholesalers engage better with the circular economy?

The circular economy is about reuse, repair, remanufacture, and upgrade.  There is a material opportunity for any wholesalers that can start to provide such services, either themselves, or in partnership with other organisations.

Q. Can you tell us a bit about what Recolight does?

Beyond providing collection and recycling of lighting, Recolight is extremely active in supporting the transition to a circular economy.  So Recolight organise Circular Lighting Live, the UK’s only conference dedicated to the circular economy and the lighting industry. Recolight also sponsor Circular Lighting Report on LinkedIn, a news service celebrating all the sustainability achievements of the lighting industry. And the company also helps to ensure that unsold remaindered stock can be used in charities or other social enterprises rather than being recycled.

Q. What are EPDs and what EPD related services does Recolight offer to manufacturers?

Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) provide tangible ways in which manufacturers can accurately evidence the full sustainability of the products they sell.  They therefore allow specifiers and end-users to choose products based on an independent third party verified statement of the environmental impacts of products.

Recolight provide a “one-off EPD” service that helps manufacturers prepare an EPD. That includes support in gathering the data required, entering it into the OneClick LCA platform, preparing a draft EPD, finalising it, and then submitting it to EPD Hub for independent verification. The service is subject to a flat all-inclusive fee.

Q. What can we expect to see from Recolight and the wider lighting industry in 2026?

Circular Lighting Live will be back again on 8^th October 2026 in London, showcasing the latest developments and regulatory changes taking place in the circular economy.  Prior to that, the Government will have consulted on possible changes to implement its circular economy growth plan, and the outcome of that consultation should be available.  That will make Circular Lighting Live in 2026 the perfect opportunity to understand the planned changes, and consequences.

Recolight has announced the publication of its first One-Off Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), developed for Raytec’s SPARTAN Linear Range. This marks a major milestone in Recolight’s expanding EPD service offering and reflects the growing demand for verified environmental data across the lighting sector.

Raytec, based in Ashington, manufactures all products in-house and provides specialist LED lighting solutions for hazardous, industrial, transport, and security applications. By obtaining an EPD through Recolight’s One-Off EPD service, Raytec now has verified environmental metrics for its flagship products; supporting transparent communication and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable lighting.

This milestone highlights the flexibility of Recolight’s One-Off EPD service, which is designed for generating a small number of EPDs or for ad-hoc product-level declarations. The service is delivered using the One Click LCA platform and independently verified for publication by EPD Hub. Raytec’s declaration is now publicly available on the EPD Hub platform. From data submission to Recolight to publication of the finished EPD took less than four months.
