Solar installations are an increasingly common part of an electrician’s workload and working with MC4 and MC4 Evo 2 connectors requires the right tools.

The new KNIPEX Tool Case for Photovoltaics brings together a purpose-selected set of professional tools in a single, well-organised case, giving electricians everything they need to work confidently and correctly on solar connectors.

At the heart of the kit is the crimp system pliers which has been specially modified for plug-type connectors used in PV installations and handles cables up to 10mm². The crimping pressure is precisely calibrated at the factory, removing any guesswork and ensuring consistent, reliable crimps every time.

The case also includes cable shears capable of cutting copper cables up to 15mm in diameter, and the precision insulation stripper. The stripper comes with adapted blades specifically designed for the larger stripping capacities needed in PV work, covering 4.0, 6.0 and 10.0mm² cable cross-sections. Having the right stripping tool for the job avoids nicking conductor strands which is a common cause of problems when dealing with higher current applications.

Insulated for safety and built for strength, the KNIPEX Pliers Wrench combines the control of a wrench with the versatility of pliers.

It’s ideal for gripping, pressing and fitting with total confidence and replaces an entire set of metric and imperial spanners. The VDE insulation provides protection for work on live systems up to 1,000V AC, while laser-cut metric and imperial scales make it easy to pre-set the jaw width before reaching into a live enclosure or awkward space. This practical feature allows accurate adjustment away from the workpiece, ideal for switchgear, distribution boards or control panels.

Built with high lever transmission, the 250mm Pliers Wrench delivers exceptional gripping power in a compact form. The clever internal mechanics amplify manual force by 10 times, giving the user vice-like holding strength with complete control. Even flat components can be held and processed easily, with pressure distributed evenly by the parallel jaws.

Those parallel jaws also allow the wrench to grip firmly without marking or damaging surfaces, making it perfectly suited to plated or chrome fittings. Adjustment is quick and simple thanks to the push-button mechanism so electricians can move seamlessly between different sizes.

For professional electricians, mobility isn’t just a convenience, it’s becoming a core requirement, says David Barnes, Sales and Marketing Manager, KNIPEX Tools UK.

Whether navigating tight inner-city spaces, managing multiple site visits in a single day, or simply trying to present a professional image, the right approach to transporting tools can have a real impact on both efficiency and image. The days of lugging an overflowing toolbox from van to jobsite are numbered.

Increasingly, tradespeople – especially those working in urban environments – are opting for smarter, more comfortable and more versatile ways to carry their essential kit. The trend towards modularity, durability and sleek design is shaping what electricians expect from their tool transportation solutions, and wholesalers have a clear opportunity to capitalise.

An electrician’s toolkit is more than just a collection of screwdrivers and cutters – it’s a mobile workshop. But without the right transport, even the best tools can become a burden. Tool storage solutions need to do more than just carry weight; they need to support daily routines, reduce fatigue and offer the flexibility to adapt to changing work environments. For many, public transport or bicycles have become preferred means of navigating busy cities. And even when a van is used, restricted parking or secure site protocols often mean electricians have to carry their tools over longer distances. In this context, portability isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity.

Modern working life

It’s no surprise, then, that KNIPEX has seen increased demand for tool bags and cases designed for modern working life. The focus has shifted to designs that offer intelligent organisation, ergonomic comfort and robust protection – all without compromising on appearance. To meet this evolving need, KNIPEX has developed a range of tool cases and backpacks that combine high-spec engineering with practical features for real-world use. Two standout options tailored for electricians are the 00 21 50 E Modular X18 Electric and the 00 21 33 E Robust26 Move Electric – both fully loaded with 22 tools and engineered to help tradespeople move smarter, not harder.

The Modular X18 Electric is a tool backpack built for professionals who need maximum mobility without sacrificing functionality. Designed around the daily requirements of electricians, this backpack offers a modular interior layout with a total of 21 retaining loops and 37 pockets, allowing users to create a setup that works for their specific tasks.

The rigid, impact-resistant base makes it suitable for tough site environments, while the breathable back padding and adjustable shoulder and chest straps ensure comfort over long distances. Whether worn on a commute, carried on-site or stood upright for easy access, the Modular X18 Electric supports a professional approach to every job. And when image matters – as it increasingly does – the clean, understated design gives a smart, modern look that reinforces a tradesperson’s professionalism.

On the move

For those who need the capacity of a case with the flexibility of a trolley, the Robust26 Move Electric delivers. With a telescopic handle, smooth-rolling wheels and a durable outer shell, it’s built for tradespeople who need to transport larger toolkits between jobs. The lid’s folding mechanism and sturdy aluminium frame allow for quick setup and access, while integrated locks provide peace of mind on-site or in transit. The Robust26 Move Electric is ideal for professionals moving between larger projects or who need to carry diagnostic equipment alongside conventional tools. For wholesalers, it’s a compelling option for customers who want to streamline their working day without compromising on quality or security.

Another major selling point across the KNIPEX transport range is the availability of spare parts and accessories. From replacement wheels to interior dividers and foam inserts, users can adapt or refresh their cases as their kit – and their work – evolves. This modular, upgradable approach aligns with how tradespeople think about tools today. A good case isn’t just a container; it’s an investment. When electricians can tailor their transport to the demands of different jobs, it drives efficiency and supports better project outcomes.

The growing demand for premium tool transportation presents a timely opportunity for wholesalers. Electricians are increasingly looking for solutions that combine practicality, professionalism, and comfort – particularly those working in densely populated areas or on multiple short-duration jobs. By offering a curated range of quality tool bags and cases like the Modular X18 Electric and the Robust26 Move Electric, wholesalers can tap into a value-driven market segment. These are not just add-ons or upsells – they are essential parts of an electrician’s toolkit, and often among the most-used items day-to-day. Electricians are ready to invest in smarter ways to carry their tools. Make sure you’re ready to supply them.

The KNIPEX Stripping Knife brings precision, power and safety to sheath removal, with a unique ratchet function that cuts through even the toughest materials with ease.

This versatile stripping knife with guide shoe and ratchet function is designed for professionals who regularly work with hard plastic sheaths up to 7mm thick. Whether you’re stripping large SWA cables, industrial flex or tough insulation, the KNIPEX Stripping Knife is built to get the job done cleanly, safely and quickly.

The blade has four positions: the angled position allows for easy round cuts, straight for circumferential and longitudinal slicing and ratcheting for lengthwise work. The ratchet function means the blade moves in sync with your motion to make lengthwise cutting smoother and more controlled, even on stubborn materials. It reduces strain and, as it lessens the risk of slippage and improves accuracy, is great where space is tight. The blade can also be folded away and a three-stage blade lock, complete with safety lock and push-button release, keeps everything secure in use and during transport.

The blade is marked with depth lines, allowing you to measure the thickness of the cable sheath before cutting.

Electricians working with steel wire armoured (SWA) cables need tools that offer precision, power and simplicity. KNIPEX has answered this demand with its VDE tested cable cutter, designed to cut through SWA cables up to Ø45mm/380mm² with minimal effort.

With a robust yet lightweight design, weighing just 800g and measuring 315mm in length, this ratchet action cutter is built for efficiency and control. Its compact size makes it ideal for use in confined spaces, allowing electricians to make clean, precise cuts with one or two-handed operation. The precision-ground blades and induction-hardened cutting edges ensure smooth, crush-free cutting, making it an essential tool for professionals who require accuracy and reliability.

Equipped with a high-leverage three-stage ratchet drive, the cable cutter maximises cutting force while reducing strain on the user. A support area for resting the tool while cutting adds to its ergonomic design, ensuring stability and comfort in demanding work environments.

This VDE-tested tool is insulated with multi-component grips, providing electricians with the safety and confidence needed for live electrical work. It complies with IEC 60900 standard, ensuring it meets the highest safety requirements for professional use. This cable cutter is sturdy, easy to use and stable – a must for every toolbox.

The KNIPEX VDE-tested snipe nose side cutting pliers are designed for installation, assembly and cutting tasks – their long, slender tips give professionals all the control and safety required for working in tight spaces.

These pliers are known as ‘stork beak pliers for a reason – forged and oil-hardened, they have very long, narrow, half round jaws with a 40º angle at the tip to get easily into awkward spaces. The elastic precision tips are distortion-resistant and won’t buckle even under strong twisting forces, making them ideal for gripping, inserting and cutting in confined spaces such as control cabinets, machines and junction boxes.

The induction hardened cutting edges are shaped for a pierced cut, making them highly efficient for both soft and hard wires. The cutting-edge position near the joint improves force transmission, so you get an impressive cutting performance with minimal effort across different wire types.

The KNIPEX snipe nose side cutting pliers are finished in chrome for corrosion resistance and have insulated, multi-component grips for comfortable handling. They are VDE tested so comply with safety standards for electrical work. The pliers are also available as part of KNIPEX’s Tethered Tools range.
